Dollar close to eight-month peak on bullish investor sentiment

The dollar was about 0.1% from the strongest level in eight months against the euro as investor bets that it would climb versus the single currency increased to the most since November 2012. The US currency held its biggest weekly advance since March against its major peers before reports forecast to show growth in services remained strong and steady.

The Federal Reserve begins meetings tomorrow to debate the pace of interest-rate increases and whether to further reduce bond purchases. The New Zealand dollar fell to a six-week low.

The dollar was at $1.3438 per euro during morning trading in New York, little changed from July 25, when it reached $1.3422, the strongest since November 21. The US currency was at 101.85 yen from 101.84 at the end of last week. The euro was little changed at 136.86 yen.

The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index, which tracks the US currency against 10 major counterparts, was little changed at 1,013.92 from the end of last week, when it rose 0.5%, the most since the period ending March 21, and touched 1,014.39, the highest since June 18.
